Substance Abuse

Alcohol Abuse

When most people get started drinking or doing drugs, they most likely started it to fit in, or to be cool. There are some who struggle with substance abuse because of sadness or tragedy in their lives. They had no idea that they would become dependant on it down the road.

We often think of substance abuse as sin in-of-itself alone, but there is a greater problem that underlines addiction. Alcohol and drugs are not the problem people are dealing with, this is just an outer manifestation of internal conflict.

Everyday thousands upon thousands of people drink or do drugs to try and erase the hurt, pain and sadness they feel. Even those who party and seem to be having so much fun do it because they are empty inside. Each person who becomes addicted to some form of substance has become a casualty to the emptiness and pain that sin has inflicted in their lives.

I for one, was once one of those alcohol and drug abusers. I drank booze straight out of the bottle, took acid, smoked dope and snorted cocaine. At first I began getting involved with drugs so that I could fit in. But, I really got involved deeper because inside I was hurting and trying to erase the guilt of sin in my life.

I tried to quit on my own but never succeeded. I just could not get past the sin in my life and couldn't escape the desire for chemical substances.

But, when God called to me... I responded and gave my life to him. When God delivered me, he took away the desires for those substances. I was delivered in one day, with no withdrawals or without attending any self-help groups. Now, it's like I never ever drank at all.

After many years of living for God, I have never struggled with substance abuse; never ever been tempted either. I for one can attest to the fact that a person can be completely set free from substance abuse!!! Don't believe that lie, that once a drunk, always a drunk.

Just give your life to God and see what wonderful things he can do for you!!
