The Caged Up Spirit

INTRODUCTION

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; (Isa 61:1)

During a family get-together just for all the ladies in early 2001, my wife was given a candle in a small cage (pictured left).

When I saw it on our counter the next morning, as I intently looked at it, all I could see was a spiritual picture of someone who's spirit is trapped in a cage. I couldn't figure out why I was seeing this, but I took note of it.

Later that week I understood what I was seeing. My own spirit was caged up. The next week I then went to a four day conference and totally broke out spiritually in the Holy Ghost. I was freed from that caged up experience.

After this conference I decided to write this simple study in hopes that it can help someone find freedom from their spiritual prison.

THE CANDLE - OUR SPIRIT
Our spirit is a sensitive part of our inner being; in it is where God's Spirit dwells. And from it is where the Spirit flows like a river.

However, in minutes we can go from happy to sad depending on what happens around us. Circumstances can liberate us or cause us to become a captive to life's prisons.

If you look at the picture you will see a candle that is not lit. Because of this, it fails to shed light into the atmosphere around it. We can become like this candle. We have the ability to be a light, burning brightly and free or life's circumstances can blow out our light! And when this happens we feel trapped and in prison.

THE CAGE (PRISON) - CIRCUMSTANCES
When we go through these times of feeling trapped in our spirit, we can usally trace it to demonic attack, carnal appetites that we feed or from other sources and circumstances we encounter. What are these "cages" that put our light out? How does our spirit get locked into a prison like this?

Broken Heart
Everyone gets their heart broken from time to time. Family, friends, saints or even church leadership can say things that can wound our hearts. If we do not forgive and get healed of these wounds, then our spirit becomes trapped in the prison of anger or even bitterness.

Fleshly Addiction
We have all heard the quote "what ever you sow, is what you will reap". This is so true when it comes to fleshly habits. When we feed our mind stuff that is not good for us, it will slowly bind us and cause our spirit to be snuffed out. Thus we end up being a captive, with no light in our spirit!

Bound By Demons
It is impossible for someone to be filled with the Holy Ghost and to be posessed by a devil at the same time. However, if we get carnal enough and our light gets dim, a demon can oppress us and bind us completely. If a person reaches this state and they do not get free from the oppression, then they can lose the Holy Ghost and become posessed by the devil (Mat 12:43-45). A person can be oppressed by a demon and not be posessed, there is a difference.

A lot of Christians ignore this fact. So while they play with demonic spirits and sin, they are in great danger of becoming bound in a prison that can totally kill any light they may have.

GET SET FREE
There is hope when your spirit is held down or bound by oppression. The solution is so simple in fact that many miss it! A person must have a hunger to touch Jesus with all their heart! They must press through any barriers to get free and have their light restored to them.

To get free, we have to go where Jesus is. If someone attends a powerless church, then go visit a church service where Jesus is and where there is liberty. For where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty!

We must also repent for any sin that we have committed. Unrepented sin will not allow us any freedom. Any wounds and unforgiveness will hinder us from breaking out of our prison.

CONCLUSION
Look at the picture above again. Do you ever feel that way? Are you feeling this way now? Has life's circumstances put out your light?

Then I pray that Jesus will talk to you right now and that you will be free from every oppressive spirit. Bind up any wounds of the spirit and forgive you for any sins that you have committed.
