Dealing With Human Nature

INTRODUCTION
In my last article; Understanding Satan's Tactics, I discussed how Satan's tactics and devices is used against humanity. This was important because you have to know how the devil's kingdom works. In this study, we are going to focus on humanity and how they operate and how they respond to God, sin and devils.

EVERY ONE IS BORN WITH A SINFUL HUMAN NATURE
As we stated before, everyone is born with a sinful, human nature because of the fall of Adam and Eve. We didn't choose to be born this way, nor did we choose to deal with the sin and weakness in our lives. As a matter of fact, as we grew up as a child we did that which seemed to be more fun and pleasurable so we could avoid dealing with those weaknesses.

SEEDS OF SIN
Have you ever noticed that you don't have to teach a child to do bad things; it just comes natural to them. I kind of think of the sin that is born in us as little seeds. We are all born with these (sinful) seeds such as murder, theft, adultery, fornication and other various sins. Now, if the right circumstance presents itself, the "seeds" can become active and we actually commit the deeds of sin. When a person decides to listen to the voices in and around them, then they would activate that sin (seed) and it will produce bad fruit (deeds).

What stinks about the whole thing, is that we have to deal with a human nature that will lead us to the Lake of Fire if we don't find God and get this human nature cleaned up. For the wages of sin is death, and the sad part is that billions of people don't even know where they are headed.

Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

BODY, SOUL AND SPIRIT

1Th 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Now, to understand human nature, we have to learn how our entire body is made and how it deals with its sinful nature. After all, all the problems that humans deal with is from within and it's what this old human nature does that seems to get us in trouble.... thus the deeds of our body causes us to sin against God.

A human is made up of three parts; body, soul and spirit. What we need to understand is that, two-thirds (2/3) of our being is made up of spiritual energy. Our lives actually operate more by spiritual energy then by the natural body. We live and operate based on our soul and spirit. It is our body that actually obeys what our soul and spirit leads it to do. We often blame our flesh for our mistakes, but it is the body that responds to what our mind dictates. Our soul (our will) plays the key role of whether we obey sin or righteousness. You can see this principle in the book of Romans 7.

1) Body: Our body is just the outer shell of our being. Outside of its natural functions, the body ONLY does what our minds (soul) tells it too. Within this "body" is our sinful nature, which in scripture is mostly mentioned as "flesh."

2) Soul: Our soul is actually the main control center of our being. This is where our will and emotions, affections etc. reside. More on this below.

3) Spirit: Our spirit is what gives us life. It is kind of like the "fragrance" of the soul. Whatever condition the soul is in, the spirit reflects that. Our spirit is also what we use to discern spiritual things, try other people's spirit and feel God. The spirit is also where the Holy Ghost resides when we are born again.

THE SOUL - THE BATTLE GROUND OF SPIRITUAL WARFARE
When we deal with the soul, we are dealing with one of the most complex parts of our being. Within the soul dwells our will, our emotions, affections and our desires. The soul IS THE MAIN control center of our being. The soul can sway towards evil or good. It is the place where our thoughts are embedded and cemented. It can be manipulated by tragic events, learning or desires.

However, most importantly, the soul is also the playground of the devil. The reason is, because the soul has access to that sinful seed (nature) of the flesh that was planted there by the devil. The soul is the battle ground of spiritual warfare. A human's eternal destiny is determined by the condition of the soul when a person dies.

In this spiritual battle for the soul, the devil seeks to keep a person in bondage to sin. He will constantly be trying to put thoughts of doubt, unbelief, sin and anger towards God. And, the best way for him to do that is convince a person through their will to say yes to his tactics.

THE WILL OF MAN IS THE FINAL STRONGHOLD
Because the soul is the control center of a person, that person must decide if it wants to do righteousness or sin. It is through the will of a person where this is done. When a person reads, hears or listens to anything in the world, they decide (through their will) whether they like or dislike something. Unfortunately, that "will of man" decides based on a person's desires (or what they want).

When a person "feeds" on any information, habit or sin for a prolonged period of time, it forms a stronghold in the mind. This "stronghold" is what becomes the person's character. So, no matter if the stronghold is good or evil, trying to get a person to change their will on something can be hard. Therefore, if a stronghold (wrong thinking) is demonic in nature, spiritual warfare and teaching is the only way to pull it down. And this can only happen if a person is willing to RELEASE THEIR WILL and let God change their thinking.

REFORMATION VS SANCTIFICATION
This is going to be the important part of this lesson because humans try to solve their problems either on their own or through God. I believe everyone is born with both good and evil characteristics in them. There are good-hearted people in the world that try as hard as they can to live right. However, as hard as they try to reform themselves or give up some sinful vices, they still seem to always come short of it; they still feel empty inside. That is why they try to seek perfection through a self-help book, career or relationship.

When a person seeks help in "help groups" or tries to "fix" themselves on their own, the scripture considers their effort as "self-righteousness." A person that tries to be moral without God is actually a god unto themselves. Trying to perfect your flesh is like trying to put back together a broken egg. What people try to do with their sinful nature can never work unless the works of the devil are pulled down.

What the sinful nature of man needs is the sanctification process of the Spirit of God; which comes from being born again. It is only God that can change a person on the inside. Man may be able to discipline some things, but major flaws can only be fixed by a person's mind being spiritually transformed by God. Thus, the stronghold of the sin has to be pulled down and submitted to the thoughts of Jesus Christ. Then, and ONLY then can a person really be free!

Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

2Co 10:4-5 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) (5) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

CONCLUSION
As we can see in this lesson, human nature is a complex machine. People will only do what they love and desire the most; whether good or evil. People are always trying to fix themselves or others. Some of the biggest reasons marriages break apart is because of character flaws that can't be fixed. Each spouse is always trying to fix the other, which leads to conflicts in the relationship.

So it is between us and our human nature. We want to do good, but our weakness keeps us from good. And so, people try to cover the sinful pain and guilt with many things. Self-help books and training is just a bandaid to the real problem; and that is the seeds of sin that grow up and bear "bad fruit" that was sown there by the devil.

When working with people who are not born of the water and the Spirit, you have to be careful to not try and get them to do "godly" things before they even have the Holy Ghost. That is just the same as a self-help book. The reason being is that without the Spirit of God in their life, they still can't live godly. Trying to clean the fish before they get into the boat is pointless.

As a Christian worker in the field of men, you have to remember that they have spiritual blinders on and you have to love, teach and pray that their eyes will be open to God and their need for salvation. Even within the church, we don't need reformation, we need the anointed Spirit of God to help us in intercessory prayer for those who are held captive by demonic strongholds in their mind.

People have mental habits (strongholds) that are so embedded, it will only take Spiritual Warfare to wrestle with the demons that control a person; especially if a person is possessed by a strong sinful problem such as pornography. If a person is addicted to lust and cannot get free of it. It may take a saint of God to intercede on their behalf to help that person be delivered of that demonic stronghold.

This is what Spiritual Warfare is all about... pulling down obstacles and strongholds!

While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days. (Act 10:44-48)
