How To Find God

For the person that is seeking to find God for the very first time, they will have some things to work through such as; Is there a God, who is He, Where is He and How can I know Him. These are normal questions that I will briefly address in this study, but, the main point of this study is to point you in the right direction, so a least you have an idea how to find Him.

Joh 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

If you are reading this because you want to know more about God, then you are being drawn to the things of God, by God Himself. God's Spirit is a wonderful presence that feels like love, but makes you feel guilty at the same time. That is because God is trying to reveal to you your need for Him. You may be feeling empty inside, aware of your sin etc., but yet you are looking for truth and love from a loving God at the same time.

This is how God draws you to Himself! His presence is around you and you are feeling things spiritually deep inside of your soul. Don't be afraid to reach out to God, He loves you and wants to help you!

Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

God is a Spirit. He abides in a spiritual realm called heaven. He is not way out in the sky billions of miles away never to be found. He is around you at this very moment because God fills all space and is everywhere at once.

The first thing you have to do is you must believe that there is a God before going on. If you don't believe He's real, then how can he help and save you? The Bible says that there is one God and they that worship him must worship Him in spirit and in truth. That means you must understand (truth) of who God is and worship Him with all your heart (spirit). The greatest commandment is:

And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. (Mark 12:30)

Mat 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

The next thing, is to realize that your life is incomplete. There's a void and a longing in your spirit that you have tried to fill with all kinds of things, but you are not able to fill it. This is where the hunger for God begins. Jesus said if you hunger and thirst after righteousness, you shall be filled. You must desire God so much, that you are willing to do or give up anything you can to find him. You will want God more than the very breath in your body. This will begin your spiritual search for Jesus.

Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

When Adam and Eve sinned, they opened the door of sin for all of us. When we are born, we are automatically born with sin in us. We are separated from God.

What is sin? Sin is the transgression of God's laws. God gave us his word and set down some laws to govern our moral and physical lives. When we break one of these laws, we have transgressed the law. The penalty for sin is eternal punishment. No matter how good you may be, you are still born with sin in your life, and the only way to be forgiven for those sins, is through the blood of Jesus.

• You cannot get good enough or clean enough on your own to receive God's spirit. Come as you are!
• Understand that God loves you and wants you regardless of what you have done.
• Seek God with ALL your heart.
• Be willing to humble yourself before God.

Mark 2:17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Repentance means to turn around or to forsake your sins. To have a change of heart and mind. When you truly are sorry for all the sins you have committed, it should cause you to repent. When you repent, you confess to God that you are a sinner and need him to forgive you. You approach God the same way you would approach someone that you have wronged. You would humble yourself and go to them and ask them to forgive you. God is the same way, but you must really mean what you say. God knows if you are sincere or not. When we really mean what we say, then we will tell God that we will not go back to those sins, or sins of the future. When true repentance occurs, there will be a heavy load of guilt and shame lift off your spirit. When you reach this point, you are ready to receive the Holy Ghost (discussed later).

Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Joh 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Baptism is an essential part to finding God. Baptism's purpose is to remit (cleanse, wash, put away) our sins. The Bible says that we are buried with him by baptism and we also put on Jesus Christ. As He was buried, so are we buried. Baptism in the Bible was done by immersion (dunk completely) in the name of Jesus Christ.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

The scripture in Acts 2:38 is known as the plan of salvation. As discussed previously, repentance and baptism is essential. You can receive the Holy Ghost with the initial sign of speaking in tongues as the spirit gives the utterance. This is a supernatural act of God. This is something that can be felt! Some people think that if you just believe in God that you automatically receive the Holy Ghost. But in the Bible anyone who ever received the Holy Ghost, spoke in tongues.

What is tongues? Tongues is a language that you speak as God spirit flows through you. It is not something you learn. God gives it to you supernaturally. When you seek God for the Holy Ghost you are simply asking God to have full control of you and come into you and dwell. You are seeking God himself, not just the tongues. The talking in tongues is a result of complete surrender to God. And then He fills your spirit and you will speak in tongues. It's nothing to be afraid of. For the Holy Ghost is God himself coming to live in you. It is God's Spirit that will allow you to live above sin.

When you are ready to repent and pray to the Lord, this is basically how you will pray. But remember, these are not the words you repeat, it is just an example of what your own personal prayer will be like...

STEP 1: Be yourself and talk to God in your own words. God doesn't hear fancy recited prayers, but prayers that are truely humble before him… be yourself... He is your friend!

STEP 2: Tell God how much you want Him in your life. Tell Him how sorry you are for all the sins you have committed in the past and that you will purpose in your heart to not do them anymore.

STEP 3: Give every part of your life to Him. And most importantly, be honest and true with Him. He knows if your are sincere or not.

STEP 4: When you have repented fully, then you we feel a heavy burden lift off of you. You should feel great joy and freedom. Just keep praising and thanking Him for forgiving you.

After you have fully repented, then you can ask God for the Holy Ghost. When seeking the Lord for the Holy ghost, just thank and praise Him, for the Holy Ghost is a free gift; just recieve it!

When you have completed the plan of salvation as described above and have been filled with the Holy ghost, then you have found God. You are on a new road and a clean slate before God.

As a new born again believer, you now have access to God all the time, and this new born again experience can be continually refreshed on a regular basis. It is not a one time thing! It is a wonderful relationship with the true living God!!

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
