The Wounds Of The Past

In listening to people tell me their troubles; you can usually trace their problems to something that took place when they were a child. People's wounds can cause them to struggle in areas of their life that they cannot seem to overcome.

People are who they are today because of their bad experiences as children and adults. These life changing wounds often cause people to put up walls; which always leads to pain, bitterness, un-forgiveness and pride. Often times they will use pleasure or substance abuse to try and cover these wounds.

But Jesus cares about those wounds. He sees the pain and knows that these wounds can hinder someone from serving Him with all their hearts. Please allow me just a few minutes to delve into this subject.

As children, we were innocent. We were subject to the adults that took care of us. We had no control of our circumstances or how we lived.

Then as an unsuspecting soul, some adult decides that they need to rape, abuse or neglect us. They treated us like trash and despised us. Our innocence was defiled. Then as a wounded child, our life had been changed. We didn't ask for it, it just happened.

When these "wounds" take place, there is an "open door" into our lives where sin has defiled us. This defilement of sin corrupts our inner-being and sometimes even demonic spirits are attached to us.

What often happens is that because we are violated by sin, we in turn, turn right around and commit sin also. It can be a vicious cycle for anyone for most of their life unless they find God.

The natural thing for a person to do in these cases is to become hurt, then angry, then bitter and then put up a wall of defense. The only way to cope with these trauma's, is for that person to try to block it out of their minds by pretending that it didn't happen or to snuff out the pain with pleasure. Pretending these wounds are not there is not a good thing. When doing this, we tend to become someone we are not. Sometimes we even lean to drugs and alcohol to make the pain go away.

If a person has not yet been saved according to Acts 2:38, John 3:5, then they must first get God in your life before the healing process can begin. Read The Born Again Experience.

After a person Finds God, what happens first is that God forgives all the sins that they have committed. Then there will be a process of healing that will take place (more on this below) to help a person get victory over the things that defiled them as a child.

Some think that when a person is saved that the wounds of the past are automatically healed. And though it is true that some minor issues are taken care of when a person is saved; that is not always true with major wounds. There are some saints of God who still walk around with wounds from the past. And they wonder why they cannot live for God in victory.

When a person is saved, what happens at conversion is that their sins are forgiven. All the actual sinful deeds that they did were forgiven. But, some of the wounds and thinking from those wounds often come with a person into the Kingdom of God.

Wounds of the past always forms the type of person we are and what we think about life. And most of the time, our thinking has to change concerning the way we do things. Therefore, we have to visit why we think a certain way, which leads us to re-visiting a wound from the past.

Yes, Jesus forgave us for the "past" mistakes of sin, but, He is ultimately interested in us being completely made whole so those wounds do not cause us defeat down the road.

Most people come to God because of trouble and sin in their life. And even though God forgives the sin, their emotions and thinking must also be healed and renewed; thus, the healing of any wounds from the past. True healing can take place once a person has Jesus in their lives.

The process of healing may hurt, but the thing a person needs to do is bring that wound to God and allow Him to open it up and cleanse it. That is how a person becomes whole again.

When the wound does not get healed, it will eventually fester and come to the surface to cause problems, such as crime, murder, hatred divorce or even suicide. Look at our world today because of wounds!

This subject of the healing of the wounds of the past is deep and complex. However, the key in being healed of these wounds is to be transparent with God and be willing to re-open the wound and let God cleanse it.

You will find that most of the struggles people have is because of a wound that has not been healed. Wounds cause us to think and react wrong. Thus, it steals our peace and joy.

I entreat you today to give Jesus your wounds. Why struggle with un-forgiveness and bitterness. Why struggle with the same old problems...

Luk 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

Let Jesus heal those wounds!

In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) (Joh 7:37-39)
